3 Favorite Boutiques (Croix-Rousse Edition)

A while back I wrote about shopping in a few of the different neighborhoods of Lyon. Now I'm here to tell you all about the Croix-Rousse boutique scene.

If you've ever wandered the winding streets of the historic fourth district, you've probably noticed how many cute little shops there are tucked away around every corner. Here's my list du moment with three recent favorites.

1. Chez Clairette // 9 Rue du Mail

The artfully arranged window display of this concept store caught my eye the other day as I was walking past it. Geometric vases, a retro-inspired bread box and an 'oh la la' canvas bag were beckoning me to go in and have a look. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), I didn't have any cash on me so I couldn't buy anything. Yet. I'll be back!

2. L'Instant Poétique // 129 Boulevard de la Croix-Rousse

I dare you to step into this petite boutique tucked away behind the Mairie and walk out empty-handed. I noticed it back in January when my sister Kara was in town, but it was closed so I made a mental note to come back. Then a few weeks ago, I happened to be walking by so I popped in "just to look." I soon found myself wanting just about everything in the place but in the end I picked a little white bowl made by a local artisan. Trop mignon, non?

3. Bonnesœurs // 8 Rue du Chariot d'Or

You know that store with the kind of charming, well-decorated interior that just makes you want to move in? This is that kind of shop, aptly named after co-owners (and sisters) Justine et Camille Bonneville. Like the others in this little roundup, it's an impossibly chic mix of clothing, accessories and home goods. If you're looking for something more unique than you might find at say Zara, but still reasonably priced, you're likely to find it here. It's one of the shops we actually did venture into while Kara was here and she picked up a quirky little cat ring for 8 euros. If you're curious, you can check out the store's Facebook page

So if you need to buy a little gift for someone (or yourself), you know where to go.

Bon shopping!
